What this paper is about
Edit What this paper is about Content
This paper aims to provide students with skills in microeconometrics that should enable them to carry out a wide range of empirical analyses in settings where they work with disaggregated data on individuals, households or firms. These skills are used especially in agricultural and environmental economics, development economics, education economics, health economics, human resource and labour economics, and urban and regional economics. Topics covered are: research designs and evaluation of causal effects (using randomised control trials and quasi and natural experiments, propensity score matching and regression adjustment, instrumental variables, regression discontinuity, synthetic controls and differenceindifferences); discrete choice models; limited dependent variable models; econometric issues for panel and survey data; and applications of machine learning in microeconometrics. The paper requires using Stata statistical software.

How you will be assessed
Edit How you will be assessed Content
The course is 100% internally assessed. An individual research paper is due during the examination period. The assessment gives students a chance to demonstrate their competence in applied econometrics.
Edit How you will be assessed Content
The internal assessment/exam ratio (as stated in the University Calendar) is 100:0. There is no final exam.
